What is CleanTV America?
CleanTV America is a non-profit
501(c)(3) research and education organization
whose sole purpose is to provide a forum
for citizens to learn what is broadcast
on television and voice their concerns
to networks, affiliates, and their advertisers
in an effort to persuade positive programming
change. CleanTV America provides a technology
(Action Now) by which specific local advertisers
can be identified and targeted for change
via an organized public persuasion (emails,
letters, boycott, and public demonstration)
campaign.
|
| 2. |
Why CleanTV?
Aren't there other organizations doing
the same thing as CleanTV?
CleanTV is the only positive
television advocacy organization that
focuses its persuasion efforts on local
advertisers. It is local advertisers who
subsidize the broadcasting of offensive
network programming through the payment
of advertising fees to the local network
affiliate — the local distributor
of offensive network programs.
Local advertisers account for 40% to 60%
of a local television station's revenues.
When local advertisers refuse to support
programs that are contrary to community
standards, local stations will be forced,
out of the necessity for survival, to
broadcast non-offensive programs.
|
| 3. |
What
does local news have to do with offensive
network programming?
The most expensive and the most
profitable part of a local television
station's operation is the local news.
It is during the news that the station
can charge the largest amount of money
for its advertising time because the station
can deliver the largest local audience
with interest in local issues.
Local
television stations use much of the advertising
time a provided by the networks to promote
and "tease" the local news.
This is why you will see commercials for
the local news run on almost every network
program.
Therefore, the local advertisers who advertise
on the local news are really the primary
source of revenue that fuels the local
network programming. Pressure those advertisers
to stop supporting the station because
of the offensive network programming and
the station will choose to refuse to air
network programs that are not consistent
with community standards. It's all about
free market capitalism.

How
does CleanTV work?
CleanTV monitors and prepares
daily reports on offensive network programming.
These reports, called "Raunch Reports"
graphically detail the sex, violence,
and profanity used in each program.
CleanTV website visitors read the reports,
are offended, and use our Action Now technology
to vent their disgust to local television
stations and their local advertisers demanding
that they stop airing and supporting the
programming.
The local stations and advertisers who
refuse are targeted for boycott and public
demonstration. The boycotts and demonstrations
are organized by local television market
CleanTV members.

| 5. |
Does
CleanTV have a political agenda?
CleanTV is not affiliated with
any religious or political group. Simply
stated, we represent the 100 million Americans
who were offended by what they saw on
the 2004 Super Bowl. CleanTV
provides a voice for those who believe
that network television has gone beyond
indecency and offends, through debauchery,
the common sensibilities of the average
person.
|
| 6. |
Is
CleanTV trying to force its values on
the majority of television viewers?
On any given night, 35 to 40
million people watch network television.
It is this group of repeat viewers who
support the network smut machine.
The 2004 Super Bowl drew an audience of
140 million—a differential of approximately
100 million viewers who normally don't
watch network programming.
It is this group that was offended by
what they saw and is concerned about the
impact of pernicious programming on children,
youth, families, and society as a whole.
It is this group who represents the majority
American opinion. And, it it this majority
group that is represented by CleanTV America.
Simply stated, we believe that the American
television airways, which are owned by
U.S. citizens, have been hijacked by a
perverse minority that relishes permissiveness,
violence, and profanity. CleanTV is designed
to help this decent majority reclaim our
airways for the sake of our children,
families, and nation.

The
"Raunch Reports" are so graphic.
Is that necessary?
The "Raunch Reports"
are descriptively graphic in nature. We
factually distill what was shown and spoken
on each of the offensive network programs.
Oftentimes, this distillation is shocking
but only reflects what was actually aired.
We do not whitewash or soften the reports.
It is the shock of what actually was broadcast
that educates people to how offensive
the programming really is without having
to actually watch it. It is this shock
to the sensibilities that outrages decent
people and moves them to action.
The "Raunch Reports" are also
sent to the local advertisers so they
can learn how offensive the programming
is that they are supporting. Most advertisers
are unaware of the content they support.
These reports have a sobering effect on
advertisers and, once they are aware of
the programming specifics, this awareness
places the responsibility directly on
the local advertisers. They can no longer
claim ignorance. If they choose to support
offensive programming it is with a full
awareness of what they are supporting.
It is then up to local consumers to decide,
based on this knowledge, if they want
to continue supporting advertisers who
support smut.

I
clicked on my local television stations'
"Action Now" pages and there
is not a list of local advertisers? Why?
If the advertiser portion of
your local station's "Action Now"
form is empty it is because we do not
have volunteer advertiser monitors in
your market area. There are over 280 local
television markets in the United States
with ouver 1,200 local network affiliates.
It is impossible for us to identify the
local advertisers for each of these stations
and that is why we rely on volunteers
to provide us with the information. If
you would like to be a local advertiser
monitor, click
here to complete the volunteer form.

What
can I do to help?
We need volunteers to organize
and run local chapters, to monitor network
programming and write "Raunch Reports,"
to monitor local advertiser, to recruit
CleanTV members, and to raise funds. Click
here to go to our volunteer information
and sign-up form.

Why
does CleanTV need financial donations?
CleanTv is challenging a multi-billion
dollar network television collosus. We
feel we have found its weakness (local
affiliates' dependence on local advertisers)
but, as a non-profit organization,we need
donations to fight this vile monster.
Your donations will help us: maintain
and improve the CleanTV website; fund
local CleanTV chapters, national and local
advertising, local boycotts and demonstrations,
and fundraising.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SUCCEED.
WE BELIEVE THER FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN,
GRANDCHILDREN, AND THE VERY SURVIVAL OF
AMERICAN SOCIETY IS AT STAKE. PLEASE HELP!!
